Niagara Regional Science and Engineering Fair 

The Science fair is not over after elementary school!  At the secondary level, students in all grades are welcome to undertake science fair projects and compete at the Niagara Regional Science and Engineering Fair.  The Science department will provide help to those students who are interested in doing a science fair project.  Students sometimes require mentors outside of the school community as well.  It is necessary that students complete their projects by the end of January in order to be ranked and to apply for the Fair. 

Ontario Science Centre Science School

Students have the opportunity to apply to study at the Ontario Science Centre School for a semester. Selection is based on academic achievement and teacher recommendations. Grade 12 University level courses are offered in Advanced Functions, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Sir Isaac Newton Exam

The University of Waterloo runs the Sir Isaac Newton Exam (SIN) contest each year in May. Grade 12 university level students compete in this very challenging contest with problems involving general classical physics. Students may access past contests and solutions here to help them to prepare.  Many prizes are available to be won. Please note that students must let their teacher know if they are interested in participating in this contest by the end of March.

Pascal, Cayley and Fermat Math Contests

The Pascal, Cayley and Fermat Math Contests are an opportunity for students to have fun and to develop their mathematical problem solving ability. Early questions require only concepts found in the curriculum common to all provinces. The last few questions are designed to test ingenuity and insight. Rather than testing content, most of the contest problems test logical thinking and mathematical problem solving. Euclid Math Contest

The Euclid Mathematics Contest is an opportunity for students to have fun and to develop their mathematical problem solving ability. It is for students in their final year of secondary school and motivated students in lower grades. Most of the problems are based on the mathematical curriculum up to and including the final year of secondary school. If you are interested in writing you must let your teacher know right after March break. Le Concours d'art oratoire

This is an annual French public-speaking event for students from grades 4 through 12 studying French as a Second Language in Ontario schools. It is organized by the Ontario Modern Language Teachers' Association and Canadian Parents for French (Ontario). There are four categories- Core, Extended, Immersion and FSL Plus. Students in grades 9 through 12 participate in the competitive contest format for cash prizes. Winners from the grade 11/12 category move on to the National competition. The National Concours is held annually at the University of Ottawa. All national finalists receive a $2,000 entrance scholarship and the first-place winners from each category win a $20,000 scholarship ($5000 a year) to the University of Ottawa.

COLS - Central Ontario Leadership Seminars

This is a dynamic, all expense paid, three-day workshop offered to one grade 10 student each year. It aims to motivate and develop future leaders by recognizing young talent and providing a forum to build upon leadership skills. It takes place in May. http://cols.ca/

Encounters with Canada

This one week program runs throughout the year at the Terry Fox Centre in Ottawa. It provides an opportunity for students to explore the governmental, judicial, and cultural institutions of Canada, meet experts in the theme of the week, and make friends with other participants from across Canada.
