Chemistry Competition
Students in their two senior level chemistry classes may participate in the University of Waterloo “Avogadro” and “Chem 13" competitions in May, creating opportunities to win scholarships towards their post-secondary education.
French Speaking Competition
Le Concours d'art oratoire is an annual French public-speaking event for students from grades 4 through 12 studying French as a Second Language in Ontario schools. It is organized by the Ontario Modern Language Teachers' Association and Canadian Parents for French (Ontario). There are four categories- Core, Extended, Immersion and FSL Plus. Students in grades 9 through 12 participate in the competitive contest format for cash prizes. Winners from the grade 11/12 category move on to the National competition. The National Concours is held annually at the University of Ottawa. All national finalists receive a $2,000 entrance scholarship and the first-place winners from each category win a $20,000 scholarship ($5000 a year) to the University of Ottawa.
Mathematics Competitions
Looking for a challenge? Do you like to problem solve? Like puzzles? The Math Contests are perfect for you! Open to all students, both senior and junior. The actual contests are written in February and April and practice sessions are run once a week. A great preparation tool for senior math and post secondary education.
Physics Competitions
The University of Waterloo runs what is known as the Sir Isaac Newton (SIN) contest each year in May. Grade 12 university level students compete in this very challenging contest with problems involving general classical physics. Students may access past contests and solutions from sin.uwaterloo.ca to help them to prepare. Many prizes are available to be won.
Science Fair
Science fair is not over after elementary school! At the secondary level students in all grades are welcome to undertake science fair projects and compete at the Niagara Regional Science and Engineering Fair. The science department will provide help to those students who are interested in doing a science fair project. Students sometimes require mentors outside of the school community as well. It is necessary that students complete their projects by the end of January in order to be ranked and to apply for the Niagara Regional Fair.
