Did you know.. WNSS has 11 SHSMs! Check them out below.
What is SHSM?
SHSM stands for
Specialist High Skills Major
which is an Ontario Ministry of Education sponsored program that allows students to focus their learning on a specific economic sector.
What does an SHSM do?
An SHSM program enables students to gain sector-specific skills and knowledge in the context of engaging, career-related learning environments and helps them focus on graduation and on pursuing their postsecondary goals.
Students who complete all program requirements will receive a Red Seal on their diploma at graduation.
How do I sign-up?
Visit Guidance to discuss SHSM options and pick up a registration form.
Program Requirements:
Students need to attain a minimum of four credits at the grade eleven and/or twelve within their area of specialization. This is referred to as a credit "bundle".
In addition to their bundle, students will gain six certifications provided by the school, and will complete two
Co-op
credits alongside the regular requirements for the OSSD.
Students are also given opportunities to gain reach ahead and experiential learning within the sector.
WNSS course pathway charts related to each sector can be found under links on the right.
